GCSE Media Summer Research Project

TV News Research

Channel 4 News
Channel 4 news is broadcasted on Channel 4. The time this news is run on is 55 minutes (Monday and Friday) then 30 minutes (Friday and Saturday) and 20-25 minutes(Sunday). The programme is presented byJon Snow, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Cathy Newman and Matt Frei on different days they are allocated. Channel 4 News is among the highest rated television programmes in the United Kingdom, winning a record five Royal Television Society Television Awards in February 2006. These included TV Journalist of the Year for Jon Snow, Home News Award for the Attorney General leak, and the International News Award for Congo's Tin Soldiers.

The channel was launched in 2 November 1982 which was owned by channel Four Television Corporation. The channel has been famous for various things such as drama programmes and documentaries. Although commercially self-funded, it is ultimately publicly owned. The channel was made to provide a fourth television service to the United Kingdom in addition to the television licence-funded BBC's two services and the single commercial broadcasting network, ITV.

Target Audience
The target audience for channel 4 news is currently young adults aged between 18-30 year olds which can be identified through the programs and characters which are shown on the channel. For the gender of channel 4 news is a split so 50% Female and 50% Male. The level of earning will be a someone who is educated and has a stable earning. 

Watching the news


Day1. The story which appeared a was US journalist Steven Sotloff murdered by Islamic State and this was the main story because it was the longest part and was showed first because it was important for the audience to no.

Day 2. This story was The view from inside Gaza as Israel increases attacks was the main story which was viewed by many people. This was broadcasted first and the editors done this because it was important.

Day 3. Lastly, I watched When Jon Snow met Jeremy Paxman which was an interview which was order last because it was not that important for the viewers.

    EBI: Unfortunately, you haven't completed the final task of the project correctly. You needed to list a complete running order of the stories on the news over three separate days AND write why you think the stories appeared in that order. Media Studies is 60% coursework and it's vital you complete everything required in a task - learn from this mistake.
